OH AND HUGH BREAKS COVER!

Just a couple of hours ago, we were surprised by the announcement of a single from Packed To The Rafters star Hugh Sheridan to be released this weekend. And now we have the single cover. If you don't like his little scowl (above), you might want to check out the smiling photo in the previous post (below). 'Just Can't Throw Us Away' is available digitally from this Friday with an album set for release before Christmas.

NEWS WRAP

* It's one of Australia's best loved television shows, regularly pulling in close to two million weekly viewers, so it makes sense that at least one of it's stars is taking the opportunity to release a CD. And it's Hugh Sheridan that's doing just that. It must be a devilishly quick turn-around, 'cause the young actor will release his debut single 'Just Can't Throw Us Away' this Friday. He'll also perform the track on the grand final of Dancing With The Stars on the Seven Network this Sunday and will release his debut album later in the year.
* Superstar Pink wrapped up her incredible record breaking Australian concert tour at Sydney's Acer Arena over the weekend after playing to more than 650,000 people across 58 concerts.
* New music to radio in Australia this week includes the new Shinedown track 'If You Only Knew' and 'Bodies', the first single from the forthcoming Robbie Williams album 'Reality Killed The Video Star'.
* Universal Music has today revealed the due to anticipated high demand, they've moved the physical release of Vanessa Amorosi's new single 'This Is Who I Am' forward one week. It'll now hit stores on October 09.
* But their new release schedule also reveals a delay in release for both the Cascada single and album (both called 'Evacuate The Dancefloor'). The physical single is now due out on September 18, while the album's out September 25.
* And up and coming popstress Pixie Lott (whose single 'Mama Do' has dropped to No.80 on this week's singles chart) has stripped off for a series of sexy shots for this month's FHM magazine in the UK (below). Get your goggles 'round more of the sexy images HERE.

GIVEAWAY

With a little vocal assistance from Akon, he's got the No.1 single in the country right now, he's recently been occupying the top ten with more assistance from Kelly Rowland and this week, he's even popped into the top 100 with help from Estelle, so the buzz surrounding David Guetta's fab new album is rather loud right now. So to celebrate David's number one single ('Sexy Bitch') and the fact the album's in the shops this week, the bright, shiny crew at EMI have given us FOUR copies of David Guetta's new album 'One Love' to give away to you! Can you believe it?
To enter this week's competition, simply send us an email with your name and address with the subject line 'Guetta Giveaway' and you're in with the chance to win one of the four copies!

Competition closes at midnight on Sunday September 06, 2009. One entry per person. Spam is both a dirty word and a rather fattening tinned meat. We solemnly swear not to keep any of your details on file after the competition is closed, so you'll never receive any spam OR tinned meat from us in the future. That's our promise to you.

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

BENI FTG. SAM SPARRO : Maximus

This international club banger may very well be crafted by a Belgian artist (Beni), but it has more than one Aussie connection. Yes, the vocals are from expat Sydney pop superstar Sam Sparro, but the video was shot in Melbourne by Melbourne based producers Moopjaw. And here 'tis! A series of seriously stylish young gentlemen in a series of locations (think carpark, beachside, supermarket aisle) working their magic, busting some moves, twirling some hoops and generally looking completely and effortlessly cool. The track itself is set to be digitally released in Australia by etcetc. this Friday.

JESSICA MAUBOY WINNERS

Thanks to the ever so splendid team at Sony Music, we had a rather ace competition last week with four copies of the repackaged Jessica Mauboy album 'Been Waiting' to give away to you, our loyal and fabulous readers. And what a popular competition it was too. But there must be only four winners (all drawn in random order) and so, without further ado, they are; (drum roll please)....
Shannon from Conder in the ACT, David from Campsie in NSW, Chris from Ingleburn in NSW and Terrance from Newcastle, also in NSW.
As we do from time to time, we also gave away one copy exclusively to our Twitter followers! And the winner of that copy was Aaron from Moonah in Tasmania.

Congratulations to one and all - copies will be posted out most soon!
Thanks to everyone who entered - and don't forget to keep your peepers peeled for another giveaway posting this very afternoon! Oooh! What could it be!? The suspense... The intrigue...

CHART WATCH

Aussie outfit Short Stack may have ended Michael Jackson's run atop the albums chart last week with their debut 'Stack Is The New Black', but it plummets twelve places from the top in a slightly lacklustre week of sales for albums. On the singles charts, however, the No.1 and No.2 singles both sold over 17,000 copies.
SINGLES : A mere 212 copies separated the No.1 position from No.2 this week - it's a battle royale on the Aussie singles charts. And while David Guetta and Akon's collaboration 'Sexy Bitch' remains on top with 17,504 copies sold, former Idol star Guy Sebastian has a bit hit with his new single 'Like It Like That'. It sold an equally impressive 17,292 copies to edge up two places to No.2.
Cobra Starship has produced a top five hit for Warner Music, moving up to No.5 with 'Good Girls Go Bad' (7108 copies). And Alesha Dixon also gives Warner reason to smile - after a desperately long time, single 'The Boy Does Nothing' finally goes top ten - No.9 to be precise with 5588 copies sold. Mika has another hit on his hands, joining Alesha in the top ten (at No.10) with 'We Are Golden' (4964 copies).
Mariah's single 'Obsessed' makes a long-overdue climb up the charts - she's up to No.13 this week (4499 copies), and there's a big jump from Shakira's 'She Wolf' (No.44 to No.18) with 3769 copies sold (the physical single with Moto Blanco edit and full-length remix is FANTASTIC - big props to Sony).
In position 20 (up from 21) is '22' - the new single from Lily Allen. It sold a further 3493 copies last week and Jet's finally getting some chart love with the first single from 'Shaka Rock', 'She's A Genius'. It's up twelve places to No.23 (3137).
The All American Rejects burst onto the scene at No.26 with 'I Wanna' (2903 copies), Pearl Jam is in at No.31 with 'The Fixer' (2456 copies) and Jay-Z with Rihanna and Kanye West pops into the top 50 at No.35 (2039 copies).
JUST outside the top 50, the Freemasons with Sophie Ellis-Bextor are at No.51 - their highest chart yet with 'Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)' (1473 copies), Boys Like Girls debut at No.58 with their single 'Love Drunk' (1311 copies) and Tiesto with Sneaky Sound System are in at No.59 with 'I Will Be Here' (1298 copies).
Further down, Panic At The Disco debuts at No.69 with 'New Perspective' (1062 copies), David Guetta scores another hit from his 'One Love' album with the title track featuring Estelle - it's in at No.81 (899 copies) and Madonna's 'Celebration' is down from No.40 last week to No.84 this week.
ALBUMS : With last week's No.1 from Short Stack now well and truly out of the way and sales of Michael Jackson's albums continuing to slide, the Black Eyed Peas have ascended to the No.1 position on the album chart again this week with their long player 'The E.N.D.'. It sold a lowly 7429 copies to move up from No.3 last week. Not since the week commencing April 20 have so few albums been sold to reach the No.1 position.
Artic Monkeys debut respectably at No.2 with 'Humbug'. It sold 6791 copies, while Jet's 'Shaka Rock' also debuts inside the top ten - at No.5 - with 5465 copies.
Kate Miller-Heidke's up to No.6 with 'Curiouser' (4595 copies) and Lily Allen refuses to go away with her album 'It's Not Me, It's You' - it's back in the top ten this week (at No.10) bagging a further 3533 sales.
Four albums have dropped out of the top ten this week - Paul Dempsey (No.5 to No.11), Michael Jackson (No.7 to No.12), Short Stack (No.1 to No.13) and Lisa Mitchell (No.8 to No.16).
Kisschasy debuts in the No.15 position with their new album 'Seizures' (3081 copies) and just off the pace is John Farnham's 'The Essential', powered along by TV advertising with 2377 copies.
The soundtrack for Hannah Montana 3 debuts at No.27 (1816 copies) while Australia seems to have fallen under the spell of Melody Gardot (who was incredible in concert last week). Her album 'My One And Only Thrill' reaches a new peak of No.28 (up 133 places) with 1750 copies sold.
Neil Diamond's 'Hot August Night NYC' debuts at No.37 (1381 copies) and Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu is back inside the top 50 (at No.50) with his stirring 'Gurrumul' (897 copies).
Outside the top 50, Opera Queensland Chorus debuts at No.68 with 'Opera's Greatest Choruses' (604 copies), Melody Gardot's previous album 'Worrisome Heart' debuts at No.93 (402 copies) and Tex Perkins' best of comes in at No.95 (388 copies).

SOLO SLINK

While the Slinkee Minx girls busily continue work on their forthcoming album, Slinkee Annmarie has also been branching out on her ownsome, providing vocal support to this new club/dance track from local DJ Mike Felks. Released by boutique dance label Xelon, the track is all over digital retail now, as is Annmarie's previous collaborative effort 'I Needed Love' (with Marcus Knight).

KYLIE GETS CHIGGY WITH IT

While Kylie Minogue continues to work on her forthcoming album with the likes of Jake Shears and Calvin Harris, a clip of Kylie's very brief musical appearance in the forthcoming Bollywood flick 'Blue' has hit the net. Nice to see our girl doing a little bit of choreography in this too. More of this for your forthcoming projects, Ms M, SVP... Merci.

JAICKO : Oh Yeah

Barbados has been responsible for giving us some desperately beautiful people over the years and has now begun producing pop stars. Jaicko is the latest in a string of artists coming from the Caribbean nation and has just unveiled the video for his debut single 'Oh Yeah'. He's down in the 'hood with his homies, checking out the laydees, dripping with the 'tude, in what appears to be a blatant attempt to get the world singing the two little words; 'Oh Yeah'. And while we don't know whether the world will catch on, the track's not a bad effort for single #1.

JESSICA SIMPSON : I Wanna Love You Forever

It's hard to believe that it's a whole decade since young Jessica Simpson burst onto the music scene in all her down-home girl next door glory with this single. She was just 19 years of age, three years away from marrying sweetheart Nick Lachey and at least another before she discovered where buffalo wings came from. But in front of an old plane, Jessica belted out 'I Wanna Love You Forever' and used her come hither stare with such effect that it made grown men cry (though in retrospect, at times it does look a little contrived). Her voice was incredible (and we heard it live at the time), her sex appeal and stage presence obvious. But we still can't believe it's now ten years ago.

DAMIEN'S LEITHAL NEW ALBUM

We did the same with Guy Sebastian's new album 'Like It Like That' earlier this week, so why the heck not do the same thing with Damien Leith's new album 'Remember June'. The ace Sony Music team sent us the new album this week so that we could have a little listen to it. We're still to get to it, but we'll let you know what it's like when we have. The former Australian Idol's album is set for release on October 16.

DAVID GUETTA : Sexy Bitch

You gotta love the politically correct do-gooders around the world - here they are tampering with the name of David Guetta's new single 'Sexy Bitch' because they deem the word 'bitch' too un-PC. But what they don't seem to mind is that there are countless images of women wearing little more than a string of dental floss, more flashes of flesh than you can poke a stick (or anything else sharp) at and plenty of provocative sexual imagery. Just don't dare mention the word 'bitch'.

NEWS WRAP

* Josh Pyke, whose 'Busking For Change' concert is held in Sydney next Wednesday, has announced that he'll be joined on stage at the fundraising gig by Grinspoon's Phil Jamieson, You Am I's Tim Rogers and Tim & Dave from Dappled Cities. Tickets for the show are selling fast, so head HERE to nab one.
* Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O is the leading lady on the forthcoming soundtrack for the highly anticipated film 'Where The Wild Things Are'. She'll be joined on the soundtrack by a host of other leading music artists and an untrained children's choir. It's set to hit the shops in Australia on October 23, six weeks prior to the movie hitting local cinemas.
* Stomp Entertainment will release the brand new Living Colour album 'The Chair In The Doorway' in Australia on September 11. The album, the band's first in six years features the lead single 'Behind The Sun', which is already at local radio.
* EMI will release a brand new digital EP from Massive Attack in Australia on October 02. The four track EP features the songs 'Splitting The Atom', 'Pray For Rain', 'Psyche' and 'Bulletproof Love'. The band's new album is set for release in February.
* There's no stopping the Black Eyed Peas over in the United States. This week, the band notches up (and this is rather incredible) their 21st successive week on top of the US single chart. They've now spent nine weeks in the No.1 spot with their current single 'I Gotta Feeling'.
* And songstress Paris Wells has lent her vocal talents to a new TV advertising campaign for the spa region of Victoria. She went down to the river to pray and came back with THIS.

MOTOWN'S FANTHOLOGY

Clever word, 'Fanthology', 'cause it conjures up images of an anthology that's been voted on by the fans. And by the power of greyskull, it is! Although there's no release date for this 45 track compilation in Australia just yet (it's in US stores on September 01), we assume it's only a matter of time before it pops it's head up on the local schedule. As voted on by the fans, the two CD set brings together the most popular Motown anthems, with plenty from Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, the Four Tops, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and the Jackson 5. And the tracklist is arranged in order of the votes themselves, with track No.1 (the Temptation's 'My Girl') being the most popular among respondents. It's followed by Marvin Gaye (twice in a row) with 'What's Going On' and 'Let's Get It On' respectively. But suffice to say, there are some incredible titles amongst the album's playlist. Full tracklist is HERE.

TOURING : Ladyhawke

Thankfully, the local buzz surrounding one of our faves Ladyhawke has been growing steadily throughout 2009, with her single 'My Delirium' achieving a chart success we thought we'd never see for the Kiwi songstress. And we'll say again, if you've not got yourself a copy of the Ladyhawke album, you're missing out on something truly special. Anyways, for the first time ever, Pip's coming to Australia for her very first headline tour in November this year. Kicking off in Brisbane, she'll visit Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide, before rounding the tour off in Perth on November 14. Tickets for all dates go on sale on Tuesday September 08.

November 05 : Brisbane (The Tivoli)
November 06 : Newcastle (Panthers)
November 07 : Sydney (Enmore Theatre)
November 11 : Canberra (ANU Bar)
November 12 : Melbourne (Forum Theatre)
November 13 : Adelaide (HQ Bar)
November 14 : Perth (Capitol Theatre)

BOB'S IN THE BUFF

Well when you've got a body as hot as Bob Sinclar's, why the heck not let it all out for all to see on the cover of your latest album? Respected French DJ Bob Sinclar was indeed 'Born In '69' and he's decided to unleash his inner hippy on this latest long player. Featuring the first single 'Lala Song', the 12 track album features an assortment of guest vocalists including Kevin Lyttle, Steve Edwards and the Sugarhill Gang (who appear on the aforementioned single). With an incredible 20 year international DJing career, there are few who could ever reach the dizzying heights of Bob's ascension. The album is set for release in Australia on September 11.

SAMANTHA JADE : Secret

For a few weeks now, we've been hearing about this desperately attractive young woman with a killer voice and a brand new single 'Secret', but we've known nothing about it nor the singer, Samantha Jade. So we've done some searching and what we've discovered is a young lady from Perth with an incredible pop pedigree. At just 16 years of age, Jade was snapped up by local label Affinity West Records after being spotted singing at a backyard barbecue and subsequently signed to the all-conquering Jive Records in the United States, where she honed her craft as a singer-songwriter, working alongside some of the biggest names in the business (how's Babyface, Timbaland, Max Martin, David Guetta and Rodney Jerkins grab you?).
Following on from Samantha's decision to leave Jive Records last year to pursue a career as an independent, and contributing a track to David Guetta's new album, she's been furiously at work on her own debut album and the first taster from it is the Swedish-produced single 'Secret' which is now at local radio.
The clip is rather well-produced too. Samantha seems to have a little crush on a handsome Eurasian gentleman who she suspects has a little 'secret' (great name for a song) and she sets about teasing and tantalising him with her beguiling female wares to see if he'll pop. Does he? You'll have to watch to find out.

FEDDE'S DEBUT

It's hard to believe that after so many incredible dance anthems over the past five years, internationally renowned Dutch DJ Fedde Le Grand hasn't seen the good sense to release his own artist album. But thankfully, the wait is almost over - with his debut album 'Output' almost ready for local release. Along with the incredible 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit', 'The Creeps' and 'Let Me Think About', Fedde teams up with the Stereo MCs and Will.I.Am for tracks 'Wild & Raw' and 'Feel Alive' respectively. And he's back with Camille Jones and Ida Corr for the new anthems 'Shotgun' and 'Hard Days Work' (respectively). 'Output' gets a local release mid-September.

KRISTINIA DEBARGE : Sabotage

We don't quite know what happened with the whole Kristinia DeBarge project here in Australia. A physical single of 'Goodbye' was slated for release, before being subsequently deleted from the schedule. Radio picked the song up, then it disappeared. But over in the United States, Kristinia continues her march towards being a fully-fledged popstar with the release of her second single proper 'Sabotage'. It's a high-energy up-tempo pop number with plenty of go and here's the video! In it, Kristinia seems to have a few different sides to her personality - there's the one in the delightful flowing dresses who spends time at the piano (think Delta) and then there's one who spends her nights in dark alleyways dressed in leather (think dirrrrty Christina). That said, there's also 'girl next door' and 'sex kitten'. It's a very slick production, with plenty of tight choreography and Kristinia's constant smouldering glances to camera.

A TRACKLIST KINDA GUY

Would you look what just landed in our mailbox (and when we say 'mailbox', we don't mean one of those new-fandangled internet types either - we mean one of those big metal things out front with a lock and key on so no-one can get their mitts on things like this)! It's the new Guy Sebastian album and we're lucky enough to be getting a sneak listen to it before it's official release to retail on October 09. We'll let you know what it's like as soon as we've had a listen!

EXTRA BRITNEY

It's hot off the press (news sent to us just minutes ago) - Britney Spears is adding an extra concert in both Melbourne and Brisbane to keep up with demand. The singer will now close her Aussie concert series in Melbourne on November 27. Dainty Consolidated Entertainment this morning announced the final concerts in both cities that will go on sale at midday on Monday September 7. Special guest will be Australian DJ Havana Brown, the pilot of the successful 'Crave' compilations.

DOLLY ROCKERS : Gold Digger

We've been terribly amiss in not posting the debut video by the Dolly Rockers - we're not quite sure why we haven't, but we're now making up for it, given the single is in the shops in the UK on Monday. And we must say that there's something entirely likeable about it. It's a catchy song, sure, but the video takes things up another notch altogether, with it's cheeky disposition and flamboyance. From the shop window to the rooftop to the tennis court, there's nowhere the threesome won't travel in order to spread the Dolly Rockers gospel. And given the way the throngs are flocking to that shop window, it seems they've well and truly cast their spell on the UK public. Love love love.

ALEX ROOTS : Don't Stop Looking

She may be only 16 years of age, but young Alex Roots is most certainly not low on confidence, as she prepares to release the brand new single 'Don't Stop Looking' from her forthcoming album 'Adrenaline Rush'. Combining '80s pop sensibilities with blonde bombshell looks, silver balloons and oversized snack foods, the UK-based singer bursts onto the screen in her latest video, parading around in a series of colourful outfits against a predominantly stark background. There's plenty of sass, sex appeal and attitude and if they weren't enough, there's also a little message right at the end to let you know where to go for more information! What a caring, sharing pop star she is. And if that wasn't caring and sharing enough, she's also given us a fantastic dub step mix of the single for you to download TOTALLY FREE! And you can download it HERE.

LA ROUX VENUE CHANGES

It would appear that the demand for tickets for the forthcoming La Roux sideshows is pretty damned high. So much so that touring agent Frontier Touring has today advised venue changes for the shows in both Sydney and Melbourne. Both gigs will now be held in larger venues to cope with punter demand. The September 29 gig in Sydney at The Gaelic is now moved to the larger Enmore Theatre and the October 01 gig in Melbourne has moved from the Prince Bandroom to the Palace Theatre. All tickets purchased for the previous venues are valid for the new digs, but extra tickets will now be made available for both shows. These extra tix will go on sale on September 03.

September 29 : Sydney (Enmore Theatre) NEW VENUE
October 01 : Melbourne (Palace Theatre) NEW VENUE

SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM : It's Not My Problem

Not sure why, but commercial radio in Australia seems to have fallen out of love with Sneaky Sound System of late, which is a shame 'cause the trio still pumps out some bloody fantastic pop/dance music. They're also finding big favour over in the UK, with this single 'It's Not My Problem' recently holding down the coveted No.1 spot on the UK dance chart (thanks to a bangin' mix by Stuart Price).
The band has also just revealed the video for the new single - created by Aussie Sneaky fan Maik Hempel, who won the competition to create it. The independent animator picks up a cool $10,000 prize for doing so.
In the clip, a sketch figure young man falls madly in love with Connie's image on a TV set and decides to take the TV set everywhere he goes - to the park, to the beach and ultimately down the aisle. We know a woman recently got married to a carnival ride and all, but this marrying of inanimate objects thing is getting out of hand.
Sadly, by two minutes in, we can see things just aren't working out - things in the bedroom are just plain awkward and after a while, the animated man completely loses his marbles. He throws the TV out the window in a complete fit of rage, but in a stroke of good luck, Connie is picked up by two rather recognisable music types who whisk her off into the pop ether.

PYRAMID LINEUP REVEALED

Organisers of last year's Pyramid Rock Festival on Victoria's Phillip Island did well in securing the performing services of some of the biggest names in music today. And they've pulled out all the stops again this year, revealing details of who'll be heading down to the rock in '09/'10.
The shows are headlined by the all-conquering Empire Of The Sun, but if that band alone is not enough to get your juices flowing, then cop your eyes around this line-up; The Cat Empire, The Butterfly Effect, Van She, Architecture In Helsinki, Faker, The Beautiful Girls, LCD Soundsystem, Blue King Brown, Cassette Kids, Tame Impala, Grafton Primary, Bluejuice, Kram, Phrase and many, many more.
General public tickets are on sale on Thursday September 03. Hit THE WEBSITE for more guff.

NEWS WRAP

* Sony Music Australia has leaked details of two upcoming albums. The first is the new album by singer Brandi Carlile, entitled 'Give Up The Ghost'. The new album, set for release on October 02, features collaborations with Elton John and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
* The other album they've released sketchy details about (and which will no doubt raise excitement overseas) is the forthcoming album by former X Factor UK winner Leona Lewis. Leona's new album is called 'Echo' and is set for an Australian release on November 13. The album's first single will be sent to media next month.
* Last year's X Factor UK winner Alexandra Burke, meanwhile, will release her debut album in Britain on October 26. It's proceeded by a single called 'Bad Boys' which is set for release two weeks prior.
* The ARIA Hall Of Fame ceremony, held in Melbourne tomorrow night, will be hosted by Sydney radio duo Jonathon Coleman and Ian Rogerson, better known as 'Jono & Dano'.
* Most people would know him from Australian Idol, but mesmerising local performer Bobby Flynn is heading to Melbourne to play a residency every Thursday night in September at the city's Blue Diamond bar. A "night of unforgettable pleasure" is promised. Ooo-er!
* Speaking of Melbourne, the city saw a party unlike anything it has seen before when international dance party Sensation hit the southern capital last new years eve. The Ocean Of White returns in 2009 to Etihad Stadium (formerly Telstra Dome) with tickets on sale in the coming weeks.
* UK girl group The Saturdays have unveiled the video for their ace new single 'Forever Is Over'. It's the first single to be lifted from the girls' forthcoming second album. Sadly, due to 'copyright restrictions', the video is unavailable to view in Australia.
* Visiting jazz chanteuse Melody Gardot is in Australia for two concerts, one each in Sydney and Melbourne. But the singer has tweeted that she's particularly enamored with the Harbour City.
* And according to her TWITTER page, Mandy Moore is particularly fond of Mondays and chocolate biscuits!

GET. OUT.

We completely thought they were 'avin a larf, but it would appear that Sharon and Christine Muscat (otherwise known as Sister2Sister) are performing live in Sydney this weekend and for a few other upcoming weekends too! While we don't think they'll be playing their signature tunes like 'What's A Girl To Do' or 'Sister', they are reportedly set to play tunes from "some of their favourite artists of all time". And better still, the gigs are free! Wha!?
Catch the girls playing live at the Castle Hill RSL Cocktail Lounge starting this Saturday night and again on September 12, October 3, October 10 and October 24. Gad-zoots.
Check out their FACEBOOK GROUP for more details.

VIVAVERY EXCITING

Thought pop only happened in Europe these days? Well strike that, because Universal Music Australia has this week taken the awesome, very pop, new Mini Viva track 'Left My Heart In Tokyo' to local radio. Whether or not radio in this country laps it up or not is another thing entirely, but we're thrilled that UMA is taking a chance. Managed by Simon Fuller (Spice Girls, Idol, X Factor etc etc), Frankee and Britt are signed with Geffen Records over in the UK and are produced by the mighty Xenomania team. If colour, sound and movement are your thing, then you're going to soak in the video clip big time. 'I Left My Heart In Tokyo' is oh so retro while being oh so now. Even Pete Hammond from the PWL crew has lent his genius to a VERY Stock-Aitken-Waterman remix of the track with is all over the net.

REVIEW : Differently

There's something altogether likeable about Aussie singer/songwriter Cassie Davis. There seems to be an underlying genuine-ness to her rock-chick demeanour and the fact that she's written or co-written every track but one on her debut album 'Differently' seems to suggest she's not your regular run-of-the-mill popstar.
'Differently' explodes onto your speakers in a burst of guitars, drums and rock chick vocals right from the get-go, which happens to be a track called 'Don't Wanna Dance'. Punchy first single 'Like It Loud' follows, instantly recognisable, instantly likeable - and the kind of track you could grind your teeth into at your local karaoke bar.
'Reset' drags down the energy (and the pace) to give the listener a little respite from the clatter, before once again morphing into a No Doubt-esque power-pop track, while 'Criminal' brings proceedings down a little more with a urban verse and Kelly Clarkson chorus.
We actually recognised one of the co-write names on third single 'Do It Again' - Leah Haywood - a former Sony Music poppet who released a string of pop singles earlier in the decade including 'We Think It's Love. 'Do It Again' is back to the electric guitars, punchy bass, hand claps, high powered vocals and the catchy-as-swine-flu chorus.
'Differently' introduces a dark, throbbing electro beat, 'No More' mellows the tone and 'Mess Of Mine' does so even more, allowing us to (briefly) hear a superb vulnerability to Cassie's voice before the electric guitars break in to remind us of what we're listening to.
There's plenty to like throughout the album's 14 tracks, and it's power and energy slap you fairly and squarely between the eyes. Loud, raucous, relentless and fun, 'Differently' is an album that demands attention.

NEWS WRAP

* The gang at Stomp has announced that they'll be releasing the brand new Deadmau5 album 'For Lack Of A Better Name' (pictured) in Australia on September 18. It's the Canadian's second album, and follows on from his 2008 debut 'Random Album Title'.
* Organisers have been sweating on the news for the last month or so, but at the eleventh hour, Ja Rule has finally been granted a visa for entry into Australia in time to perform at the Luna Park Big Top in Sydney this Saturday. Limited tickets are still available to the one-off show.
* Over in Britain, dance reigns supreme this week on both the singles and albums chart. David Guetta's collaboration with Akon, 'Sexy Bitch', has debuted in the top spot on the UK singles chart, while on the albums chart, it's Calvin Harris all the way with his new album 'Ready For The Weekend'.
* Aussie songstress Vanessa Amorosi has revealed on her TWITTER page that her brand new (as yet untitled) album will be released later this year. The album is the follow-up to her long-awaited comeback record 'Somewhere In The Real World'.
* The guys from Sydney outfit Groove State, whose album 'Pop Glam' we reviewed and gave away a few weeks back, are offering fans a free music download every week at the moment. Go and get yours from their OFFICIAL WEBSITE.
* In another case of 'worst kept secret', Channel 10's Australian Idol has revealed that Sony Music's Jay Dee Springbett will indeed be the new judge on the weekly talent competition. He replaces Kyle Sandilands, who was recently sacked due to his involvement in the now infamous radio lie detector stunt gone wrong.

NATALIE HOMEBOUND

With her brand new single 'Want' (pictured) now at Australian radio, and the video being finalised in London later this week, expat Aussie popstar Natalie Imbruglia is set to make a surprise visit home this weekend to undertake a series of promotional duties. She'll plonk herself down on the Rove Live couch this Sunday evening before fulfilling a series of media commitments throughout the country until next Wednesday. The singer's long-awaited new album 'Come To Life' is set for release in Australia on October 09.

GAME ON, EMPIRE

Not content with conquering the worlds of music, video and online, Luke and Nick from Empire Of The Sun have unveiled a brand new game - and it's coming soon to an iPhone near you! The new game features seven levels of Empire magic that players systematically conquer before ultimately unlocking the "Secrets Of The Empire". A free secret track awaits those who can conquer all seven levels. The game is now available to download from the iTunes apps store and you can get a sneak peek by getting your peepers around the clip below;

GERMANY GETS GLEN

Melbourne DJ Darren Glen has worked with a number of vocalists in the last few years including Shirley Davis, Tania Doko, Kelli Howell and Rob Care. He's also worked under a plethora of monikers like Firefox and Pitch Dark and was also one half of Aussie dance outfit Smash 'N' Grab. So it comes as no surprise to discover that he's just been signed to respected German dance label Kingdom Kome with his brand new track 'New World'. The new track, to be released to international digital dance store Beatport from tomorrow, features the vocals of upcoming singer Rachel Murphy and has DJs the world over giddy with excitement.
Keep your eye on Darren's OFFICIAL MYSPACE for further developments.

IS POP BACK?

It seems that pop might very well be making a comeback to the Australian music scene (about time too) if some of this week's new tracks to radio are anything to go by. EMI has today sent the brand new (reworked) single by Empire Of The Sun to Australian radio. 'Without You' is the fourth single to be lifted from the boys' album 'Walking On A Dream'.
Also heading to local radio this week are Air's single 'Sing, Sang, Sung', Tame Impala's cover of the Blue Boy classic 'Remember Me', along with (see below) 'Remedy', the new single from Little Boots' album 'Hands', the brand new track from Aussie dance doyens TV Rock, 'In The Air' and the very pop, very exciting debut from Mini Viva (we'll post more about that shortly). Viva la pOp, we say!
