CHART WATCH

After briefly getting caught up in Bieber Fever last week, Australia seems to have headed into the shops to buy Justin's new album 'My Worlds'. But just how many copies got him to No.1? Find out as we begin this week's chart watch segment.

SINGLES : Though sales of Brian McFadden's latest single 'Just Say So' slipped slightly again this week, it's still Australia's No.1 single by more than 4000 copies for a third successive week. Though Usher has started to make his move.
Usher's new single 'OMG' moves six places up into the No.2 position this week with a pretty healthy 14,580 sales under its belt. Another couple of weeks of those kind of sales and it could very well be No.1.
Bieber Fever results in a No.3 single for Justin Bieber. 'Baby' moves up seven places this week, after 13,976 people forked over cash for the track. It's one of seven Justin Bieber tracks in this week's top 100 - details of which are in the comments section of this post.
Train's 'Hey, Soul Sister' drops back to No.4, Lady Gaga's 'Alejandro' drops back to No.5.
Vanessa Amorosi's latest single 'Mr.Mysterious' is starting to find an audience too - moving into the top ten to settle at No.6 this week, with a healthy 12,205 sales.
Taio Crus hits the top 20 with 'Break Your Heart' (5096 sales), Cheryl Cole moves down by six places to No.20, and J.Bieb is up 12 places with 'One Time' to No.23.
The new Ke$ha single 'Your Love Is My Drug' is the week's highest new entry - in at No.25 with 3800 sales, while Stan Walker debuts two spots below with 'Unbroken' (3218 sales).
Sean Kingston and the Bieb are up ten spots to No.29 with 'Eenie Meenie', Ministry Of Sound dance diva Chris Sorbello makes her top 50 debut at No.39 with 'So Lonely' (2376 sales) and Alicia Keys sinks 12 places to No.40 with 'Put It In A Love Song'.
Sia just misses out on a top 50 placing - by the skin of her teeth. Her new track 'Clap Your Hands' debuts at No.51 this week. 1785 people thought enough of the track to snap it up. Just 38 copies more and she'd have a top 50 hit.
Amy Meredith debuts in the No.58 position with 'Lying' (1580 sales), while Vanessa Amorosi's track 'This Is Who I Am' makes another move up - 23 places to be exact - to No.59.
Lil Wayne & Eminem head to No.60 with 'Drop The World', Iyaz debuts at No.62 with 'Solo' (1479 sales), Justin Bieber is in at No.65 with 'Love Me' and Birds Of Tokyo's new single 'The Saddest Thing I Know' spends its first week in the top 100 at No.66 (1420 sales).
Further still, debuts at No.72 (Ernest Ellis with 'Loveless' - 1284 sales), No.78 (Justin Bieber with 'Kiss And Tell' - 1103 sales) and No.79 (Regina Spektor's 'Eet' - 1090 sales).
The Glee Cast is back in the top 100 at No.83 with 'Hello, Goodbye' (983 copies), J.Bieb again at No.92 with 'Favourite Girl' (906 sales), Diddy at No.95 with 'Hello Good Morning' (901 sales) and Operator Please debuts with 'Back And Forth' at No.96 (846 sales).

ALBUMS : On the albums side of things, Justin Bieber's Australian visit last week did wonders for sales of his 'My Worlds' album, which bullets from No.82 last week to No.1 this week. 13,445 people popped out to but the disc, having been swept up in Bieber Fever.
The sales of AC/DC's 'Iron Man 2' soundtrack just couldn't compete with Biebs - 9809 people popped the new release in their shopping carts last week, while SuBo's sales strengthened again in the lead-up to Mother's Day. 7243 sales of 'I Dreamed A Dream'.
Debuts in the No.5 and No.6 positions this week too. Bullet For My Valentine in at No.5 for Sony (5918 sales) and Xavier Rudd a fair way behind in sales at No.6 for Universal (4170 sales).
'The Power Of Madonna' hits the ARIA album chart 13 places below its US debut - No.14 here with 2264 sales - and Meatloaf's new long player 'Hang Cool Teddy Bear' debuts at No.16 with 2152 sales.
David Campbell's into the top 20 with 'On Broadway' - with sales expected to pick up in the lead-up to Mother's Day - and Operator Please have their first top 20 album on their hands with 'Gloves' (No.20 - 1809 sales).
In a big week for new albums, Brian McFadden's new LP 'Wall Of Soundz' can't quite replicate the success of its first single - debuting at No.27 with just 1642 sales, but spare a thought for Adam Lambert's album 'For Your Entertainment', which drops 20 places from No.27 to No.47.
Doris Day pops in at No.49 (813 sales) and Kate Nash's new album 'My Best Friend Is You' debuted at No.50 with just 787 sales.
Outside the top 50, Cypress Hill debuted at No.57 with 'Rise Up' (703 sales), Paul Weller debuted at No.63 with 'Wake Up The Nation' (666 sales), Cheryl Cole's album sinks from No.37 to No.70 and Shock outfit Escape The Fate are in at No.71 with 'This War Is Ours' (612 copies).
Universal Music crooner Alfredo Malabello hits the top 100 at No.86 (495 copies) and from that point on, sales become low enough to allow back catalogue releases like Radiohead's best-of and Norah Jones' 'Come Away With Me' move back into the top 100.

Two special requests:

Christina's "Not Myself Tonight" weekly sales and total sales.

Every Madonna related sale this week? "Glee" Cast #'s too?

auspOp said...

Hey Hector,

Christina Aguilera's single hasn't debuted in the official top 100 singles chart, despite it being in the digital singles chart for the past three weeks, where it's sold 9603 copies.
Sony has prevented it from charting in the official charts, presumably because they want nothing less than a top ten hit.

There's no Madonna in the top 100 - nor has there been since January 18.

Glee Cast
ALBUM No.14 : The Power Of Madonna EP (2264)
ALBUM No.34 : The Music Volume 1 (1163)
ALBUM No.36 : The Music Volume 2 (1060)
SINGLE No.83 : Hello, Goodbye (983)

Thanks for answering my question!

Do you have "Not Myself Tonight"'s digital sales for this week in Australia? So I could work out its total week by week.

Thanks for everything again!

And once again, thanks very much for everything!

You're one of the best helps for the insider knowledge in OZ!

auspOp said...

Hey again Hector,

Sure thing - Xtina sold 2696 copies of 'Not Myself Tonight' this week, placing at No.34 on the digital singles chart.
Had it been on the ARIA singles chart, based on sales it would have also been at No.34.

Hi auspOp!

Could you please provide me with sales figures for Katie Noonan & The Captins over the past couple of weeks (i.e. this week's total and last week's, too, please)? Also, do you have sales figures for the
"Page One" EP or do you only get the overall Top 100 (not the physical charts)?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Anonymous,

No love on the ARIA top 100 singles chart for the 'Page One' EP and we're not privvy to physical singles sales.

April 26 @ No.32 : 1007
May 03 @ No.51 : 784

I still don't understand why Sony won't let "Not Myself Tonight" chart. It seems as though they are embarrassed it hasn't done as well as predicted. I'd however rather allow it to chart at a lower position than not to chart at all..

I remember when it was first released, it got so close to the iTunes Top 10. I remember it peaking at #11, but it rapidly slid down. I think if it reached at least #10, it would of had a better chance. Once a song reaches the top 10 on iTunes, people notice it a lot more, and therefore download it which would boost sales. I am really hoping with its music video, which I admit is pretty good, will shoot it back up again.
